The best Oahu beaches for a picnic
The beach decides the light, the parking, and whether you get a sunset at all. West and south facing beaches get the sunset. East facing windward beaches get the sunrise and a gorgeous afternoon, which is a different and equally good thing.

Ko Olina
Four calm, sheltered lagoons on the west side, with real parking and a sunset that drops straight into open ocean. The easiest beach on the island for this, and our most requested. Good with kids, good in wind, good almost every day of the year.
Ala Moana and Magic Island
In town, ten minutes from Waikiki, with the Honolulu skyline on one side and the sunset on the other. The pick when you are staying in Waikiki and would rather not drive 40 minutes each way.
Lanikai and Kailua
The postcard water everyone flies here for, on the windward side. It faces east, so it is a morning and midday spot rather than a sunset one.
Lanikai parking is residential and genuinely tight, so we usually set up at Kailua Beach Park and keep everyone sane. Our best beaches on Oahu guide covers the rest.
The North Shore
Wide, dramatic, and mostly empty on a weekday. In summer the water lies flat and it is spectacular. From roughly November through March the surf takes the beach over, and we will move you somewhere calmer rather than stage a picnic next to a shorebreak.

Here is the part most companies will not put in writing. You can absolutely do this yourself, and for a simple sunset with a cooler and a blanket, you should. The beach is free, the sunset is free, and we will happily tell you to save your money.
The math changes when you want it to look like the photo. A low table, cushions, linens, florals, boards, a permit, and two trips to the car, then packing it all out in the dark while everyone else goes to dinner.
That is a few hundred dollars of gear you use once and the better part of a day. Paying someone to make that disappear is the actual product.
The permit nobody mentions
Setting up a table, chairs, or any real structure on an Oahu beach needs a permit. Shoreline setups fall under Hawaii DLNR, and city beach parks run through Honolulu Parks and Recreation.
We file every one as part of the package. It is not an upsell and it is not optional on our end. A ranger asking for paperwork is a poor way to spend a proposal.
The best time of day to book
Golden hour, which is the hour before sunset. Soft light, a thinning crowd, and everyone at the table looking their best without trying. We give you an exact arrival time built backward from the actual sunset for your date.
Weekdays beat weekends for parking and space. Summer sunsets run late, past 7 p.m. through much of June and July, which means a picnic and still a reasonable bedtime. Winter sunsets land closer to 6 p.m., so the whole evening starts earlier.
Book a week or two out for a standard picnic. Give a month for a peak weekend or anything with a proposal attached, because the good slots go first and the permit needs lead time.
Who should book this, and who should skip it
We would rather point you at the right thing than sell you the wrong one.
- Book it if you want the sunset to look like the photo without spending your vacation day building it, or you are proposing, celebrating an anniversary, or marking something that deserves more than a restaurant reservation.
- Skip it if you just want a sandwich on a towel. That is a great evening and it is free. Take a cooler to Ala Moana and enjoy yourself.

A deposit locks the slot and the balance is due before the day. On the day we arrive early, build the whole thing, and have it waiting at your arrival time.

The only thing we cannot promise is the weather. The sun, at least, has never once been late.

Can you do a picnic proposal?
Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons people book. The Sunset Picnic for Two is the usual starting point, and our Oahu proposal packages add the photographer hiding at a discreet distance to catch the moment. Tell us it is a proposal and we plan the timing around the light.
Do you set up on other Hawaiian islands?
No. We run beach picnics on Oahu only. We would rather tell you that up front than take a booking we cannot serve well. For Maui, Kauai, or the Big Island you will want a local outfit on that island.
What happens if it rains?
We watch the forecast with you and move the date or the beach when severe weather is coming. Oahu rain is usually a passing 15 minute shower on one side of the island, so a shift in location often saves the evening. A genuine washout gets a free reschedule.
What drinks come with an Oahu beach picnic?
